At last

At last ...

After much waiting and anticipation, our trip to Europe is finally here, (24 hours away, close enough). The suitcases are packed, the house cleaned, house-sitter and dog sitter organised (Thanks Mum, Ann and Pete). Now it's time to start the blog, especially as I've given out our address to so many people. So let's get started.

We are a family of 3, Cameron (husband), Lyn (me) and Matthew (11 yr old son), who live in Geraldton, Western Australia. Cameron and I have taken our long-service leave and have planned to travel around Europe for 4 months from August to November. Cameron has spent the last 18 months organising motorhomes, hire cars, accommodation and places to visit, whilst Matthew and I have given him advice and added our own bits and pieces, sometimes helpful, sometimes not. (Cameron had spent a fortnight organising our travels around the north of France, whilst I was writing reports and doing school work. He kept asking for suggestions, input and ideas but I fobbed him off. He finally finished, was all ready to book the hire car, when I finally looked and said "Why don't we hire a motorhome?"  Hmm, not very popular, and I spent the rest of the weekend planning the North of France.) The end result is a self-driven tour of Europe which will see us visiting people and places in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Morrocco and Spain. We have researched weather (apparently still very cold and wet), festivals (we somehow miss them all), exchange rates/money cards and netbooks/laptops/tablets.

We have ended up with:
  • 2 suitcases, 1 large (Cam and Matt are sharing) and 1 medium (all for me) and 1 backpack.
  • Asus tablet (with detachable keyboard)
  • Kindle (can't live without books to read)
  • Canon G1X camera
  • Our trusty old HTC Desire phone with a GO SIM sim card
  • Commonwealth bank travel money card (which had the best exchange rates and low fees)
  • and Kev Koala (our kindy/preprimary mascot)
We're ready. Roll on tomorrow.
