St Peters Basilica (at the Vatican)

Well, my companions are getting better. On Monday we had a late start (getting these people moving is difficult) and walked to Vatican City (about 3kms from our apartment).

It took us a while, but the view was pretty good. (this bridge was amazing. Statues of the Roman gods on each pillar).

When we got to the Vatican, the line in St Peter's Square was huge but we took turns at waiting in line and sitting down on the steps.

After over an hour of waiting, we went through security and made our way to the Basilica.

We paid 7 euros each to catch the elevator to the roof and then climbed 321 stairs to the top of the cupola.

There were so many people up there, it was very squishy and very warm (28 degrees and 95% humidity). But the view was spectacular, a 360 view of Rome.

We went back down to the roof level

and took the elevator into the basilica. WOW.

Just incredible.
